Our Veterinary Assistants and Animal Caretakers are the backbone of Eastern Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Center. They are responsible for fundamental aspects of patient care and work closely with other EPVMC services, they report directly to the veterinarians, to the Medical Director, and/or to EPVMC’s Owners. We seek highly motivated individuals that aim to provide the best patient care and are eager to continue learning.
In accordance with the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) issued by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), and aligned with EPVMC staff roles, the following list provides an overview of what you can expect to be doing here at EPVMC:
  • Advocate for the patient
  • Provide compassionate nursing care
  • Prepare medications as prescribed by veterinarians
  • Complete all treatments as instructed by veterinarians
  • Assist in collecting blood, urine, and tissue samples
  • Appropriate handling/restraint based on patient temperament during examination and laboratory
    procedures
  • Provide nursing care for animals before and after surgery
  • Prepare equipment, surgical instruments and materials to assist veterinarians during surgery
  • Thorough patient documentation as instructed by veterinarians
  • Input client and patient information into the computer system
  • Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, and examination and operating rooms

Position Reports To: Veterinarians, to the Medical Director, and/or to EPVMC’s Owner.
Credentials
  • A degree in Zootechnics or Veterinary.
  • Ability to apply veterinary principles and solve practical problems.
  • Knowledgeable in health issues, and general assistance, care and treatment.
  • Love for animals.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish, desirable.
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to widen their skill set to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. EPVMC will offer funds for educational purposes and training (Continuing Education).

Accrued days of vacation shall be used between the 1st of January and the 31st of December. Vacation days must be taken before March 31st of the following year, or they will be forfeited, unless prohibited by applicable law. If you join or terminate part way through a year, vacation will be prorated accordingly.
